Birthday and Beach party

Joyce's Birthday and Beach Party

When we plan a party on the beach, we worry about the weather. Plan and event, expect lousy conditions. This time Mother Nature was in a good mood. Partly cloudy, warm, gentle breeze, great for a day of water sports and frolicking on the beach. Yea, Just Another Perfect Day In Paradise!

The revelers began arriving at 10AM and headed for the beach, that is where the bar was set up. Once everyone was here, drinks were made and some munchies were consumed, the hardiest of the group jumped into the sea for a little geriatric Water-Volley-Ball. The rest just lazed on the beach and enjoyed the absolutely awesome day.

Most the food was pre-prepared, so at about noon we lit off the barbie and Denise (who volunteered to be the cook) began cooking the burgers. After lunch there was an Ice Cream Birthday Cake to consume that was simply divine. Then it was back to the beach and the afternoon games. The party was planned for 10AM to 2PM since the beach under the palapa is in mostly shade during that time. Even so, we all got a little too much sun but we all had fun. About 4PM everyone seemed to decide all at once it was time to go. Great Day!

We had about 20 friends at this party. When we first came to Belize and Consejo Shores, we would invite the whole community for this type of gathering. Of course there were only about 10 full time couples and a few snowbirds in those days. Two years ago we invited everyone to a Welcome Back, Meet the Neighbors party and we had over a hundred people show up. Now it would be more like 150 or more, so the days of the Community Gatherings are probably over.
