Building In Belize

New Home Construction Project 2007

Project Introduction

Lot 8 - #13 Consejo Beach Trail
Consejo Shores, Belize

The Finished House With Landscaping - Sept. 1, 2009

Daily Logs For:    June   -    July   -    August   -    September   -    October   -    November

Location:

The house was built on Lot #8 in Consejo Shores. The property is one of the nicest waterfront lots in the development. It is about 112' across the front and 87' at the back. There is an additional 66' of "Public Reserve" between the lot line and the water, bringing the total area to just over 1/2 acre. We will call the house "Casa Sueños Del Mar" (House of Ocean Dreams).

There were 4 large pine trees at the front of the lot. These trees produce a lot of needles that contain turpentine. Nothing will grow where the needles fall. These trees have been taken down. Bob Wright, the local tree expert cut these down. Bob was able to use a few pieces to create several of his beautiful carved bowls.

Construction Schedule

Construction began on on 12 June 2007. The plan was to complete the house by October 1st. We lost 10 days to Hurricane Dean preparation and clean-up. Hurricane Felix missed Belize but 4 days were lost getting ready, just in case, and then restaging. Rain and the numerous September holidays cost us a few days. Add to this the fact this house is a much bigger project than our previous ventures, with every finishing item taking longer than planned, so the house was not finished until mid November.

Paul Garcia was once again be our prime contractor. Paul and his crew preformed spectacularly on our first project and did a great job for us again on this one. (As of January 2012, Paul Garcia is no longer building houses in Belize.)
